What is ZUKR?

ZUKR is organic erythritol: a plant-based sugar replacement with zero calories. It's one ingredient, with no bulking agents or fillers.

Where does erythritol come from?

Erythritol is found naturally in fruits like pears, grapes and melons. We make ours by naturally fermenting organic plant starch, then crystallising it. One ingredient, nothing added.

How sweet is it, and how do I use it?

ZUKR is about 70% as sweet as sugar. Use it in cakes, biscuits, puddings, tea and coffee. For icing and meringues, grind it to a fine powder first.

Is ZUKR organic?

Yes. Our erythritol is certified organic by Organic Farmers & Growers (GB-ORG-02).

Is ZUKR safe if my dog gets hold of some?

Unlike xylitol, which can be deadly to dogs even in small amounts, erythritol has not been found to be toxic to dogs in studies. Baked treats can still contain ingredients that are dangerous for pets, like chocolate, raisins and grapes, so keep cakes out of reach, and ask your vet if you're worried.

Are there any side effects?

Excessive consumption may produce laxative effects, as with other polyols. Most people enjoy it in normal baking amounts without any problem.
